Abbott Fund partners with governments, NGOs and community organizations to provide testing, care and treatment for people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS as well as a range of support services. Below is a list of Abbott Fund’s key partners in its Global AIDS Care Program.

ACADEMIC MODEL FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF HIV/AIDS (AMPATH)
Abbott Fund works with AMPATH (also known as the Indiana University-Moi University, Kenya Partnership) in the Turbo and Mautuma areas of Kenya. The main focus of the Abbott Fund-AMPATH partnership is to prevent HIV infections in all members of Turbo and Mautuma including newborns by testing all HIV-infected parents and children and to enroll all who are positive, into treatment programs.

BAYLOR INTERNATIONAL PEDIATRIC AIDS INITIATIVE (BIPAI)
Since 2000 Abbott Fund has supported the Baylor College of Medicine’s Pediatric AIDS Initiative. The Fund supported Baylor College in establishing its first pediatric AIDS clinic in a resource poor setting in Constanta, Romania, the epicenter of HIV in Eastern Europe. This care and treatment model program has replicated by Baylor across Africa in 7 sites [two under construction]. Baylor, Texas Children’s Hospital and the Government of Malawi with support from Abbott Fund, opened and operates the first pediatric treatment center in Malawi (Lilongwe). Abbott Fund also supports the Baylor Children’s Clinical Center of Excellence Network, as part of its efforts to train health professionals and share best practices in pediatric HIV care. In addition, Abbott Fund is providing support for 13 satellite clinics in 5 African countries.

CATHOLIC MEDICAL MISSION BOARD (CMMB)
Abbott Fund is working with CMMB to provide PMTCT services in 70 faith-based health facilities in six provinces in Kenya. Through the partnership, testing, care and treatment will be provided to pregnant women and exposed babies and infants.

DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL
Abbott Fund works with Direct Relief International to manage the Abbott PMTCT Donation program, in which eligible organizations receive free Determine® HIV 1/2 rapid tests for use in testing pregnant women, children and families.

ELIZABETH GLASER PEDIATRIC AIDS FOUNDATION (EGPAF)
The Abbott Fund-Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation partnership in Tanzania and Uganda is working to accelerate enrollment of HIV infected children into care and treatment and develop capacity of health care workers.

FAMILY HEALTH INTERNATIONAL (FHI)
The three areas of focus of the Abbott Fund/FHI partnership in Tanzania and Malawi are the reduction of HIV transmission from mother to child; increase in access to comprehensive care and treatment for HIV infected children; and support of the government in creating an enabling environment through policy formulation and guidelines on pediatric HIV and AIDS management and ensuring the sustainability of scale-up over the life of project.

FARAJA
Abbott Fund is providing a grant to Faraja to increase access to legal and human rights information, education and support among the population infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in Morogoro.

INITIATIVE PRIVÉE et COMMUNAUTAIRE de LUTTE CONTRE le VIH/SIDA au BURKINA FASON (IPC)
In Burkina Faso, Abbott Fund works with IPC to support people living with HIV and AIDS, as well as women’s groups, with income-generation programs. They also partner to provide legal support for orphans and vulnerable children.

MAMTA
The partnership between Abbott Fund and MAMTA focuses on reducing the number of people living with AIDS in the community (specifically vulnerable adolescents) in the Delhi region of India. This child centric program develops the capacity of the communities for the prevention of mother to child transmission and towards provision of care and support for those affected by and living with HIV/AIDS.

PARTNERS IN HEALTH (PIH)
Abbott Fund is supporting a full-time pediatric physician in PIH’s Neno, Malawi program.

PRAYAS
Abbott Fund is working with its partner, Prayas (link to the Partner page) based in Pune, India, providing care and treatment to HIV positive individuals, setting up a laboratory, training laboratory technicians and developing HIV/AIDS educational materials for families, care providers and children.

PALMYRAH WORKERS’ DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY (PWDS)
In Tamil Nadu, India, Abbott Fund works with PWDS to sustain community-based responses for children affected by HIV/AIDS, people living with HIV/AIDS and their families as well as in the scale-up of care and support programs.

TOUCH FOUNDATION
Abbott Fund is working with the Touch Foundation in Tanzania to support 105 laboratory technology students pursuing a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the Bugando University College of Health Sciences (BUCHS). Abbott Fund is also providing funds to renovate and upgrade the laboratory at Bugando Medical Centre (a tertiary care referral hospital for the 13 million population of the Lake Zone) to a first class diagnostic department, as well as upgrading the laboratory at the regional hospital in Kagera.

VASAVYA MAHILA MANDALI (VMM)
Abbott Fund works with VMM in the Andhra Pradesh region of India for the care and support of people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Most recently, the Fund partnered with VMM to create a center for street children in Vijayawada, which will be used by night as shelter and by day for vocational training and counseling.
